There are a lot of things that can cause the energy bill to spike. One of the things that some homeowners have done to offset the high cost of energy in our area is installing solar panels on their property. What once seemed like technology from a science fiction novel is now a common way to provide energy for a building – even in the northeast US.
While solar energy used to be cost-prohibitive, the technology is more accessible than ever. While the cost of purchasing or leasing and installing the equipment may still be rather high, it can be offset by government incentives and tax credits. Additionally, public utility companies are required to pay you for energy returned to the grid – in other words, the energy that is generated by solar panels that is unused by you. In any case, be sure to do plenty of research if you’re thinking of going solar.
