Did you know that bed bugs were virtually extinct in large parts of the world just a few decades ago? Unfortunately, this was because of a now-banned pesticide called DDT. While it was one of the few pesticides that proved effective in killing bed bugs, it was also very harmful to your health. Needless to say, when it was discovered how bad DDT actually was, use was discontinued, but this also meant that bed bugs started to gain back the ground they had lost.
Flash forward to our day, and now you will find bed bugs are spreading like never before, especially thanks to modern travel. Hotels have become hotspots for spreading bed bugs to the homes of those staying there, and once they get a hold in your home, they are very difficult to get rid of.
To protect yourself, you should take the time before setting down your bags in your hotel room to do a thorough search and make sure you won’t be bringing some unwanted guests home.
