In areas that get a lot of snow, you will find certain features on homes that might not be found in warmer areas. One such addition that you should be familiar with is called a snow guard. Snow guards are installed at the end of a slanted roof to break up sheets of ice and snow, decreasing the damage they can do to people and property below the roof if they come sliding off. Snow guards are usually not installed at the time of construction, but they are more commonly added on later by the homeowner. They shouldn’t be installed on an extended roof, since it might not be as well supported.
While installation of snowguards isn’t that complicated, you should make sure that you know what you are doing so there aren’t any leaks around where they are installed. If you use a ladder to install them, you should also be careful so that you don’t have a fall and hurt yourself.
